Exciting New 4 Day Rafting and Camping Expedition

In line with our on-going commitment to improve our facilities and activities our Rafting Team has recently devised a new 4 day Expedition from Kunene River Lodge to Epupa Falls.

For the more adventurous, this is an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to navigate the mighty Kunene River through one of the last remaining great wilderness areas of Africa.

As you paddle the 100 km from Kunene River Lodge to the magnificent Epupa Falls you will have an unparallelled opportunity to view the river- and bird-life and, along some stretches, people of the Himba tribe living in their traditional manner.

Apart from these more relaxing periods of paddling, you will also encounter the challenges of rapids along the way.

At all times you will be accompanied by our fully trained Rafting Guides who will also set up the camp each night and prepare all your meals.

We can accommodate groups of 2-8 people with or without vehicle backup.

This 4-day Expedition includes 5 nights' camping including first night at Kunene River Lodge before setting off.

We provide either return transfer to Kunene River Lodge, or we can arrange to have your vehicle(s) waiting for you at Epupa Falls, after your last night of camping, so you can continue your onward journey from there.

This really is an unmissable opportunity to experience nature and the lonely existence of the local Himba people in a landscape which has changed little since the beginning of time

Where else can you do this? What are you waiting for?

August/September 2008

Following the huge reduction of mammals during the prolonged conflict with Angola, re-populating the area with game began this year.

This is being carried out by the newly formed local Conservancy of which Kunene River Lodge is currently the only business partner.

100 mountain zebra and 27 giraffe were introduced from Etosha. Some of the giraffe have radio collars for tracking purposes. 44 kudu from a private game reserve were also released.

Website Update

The major update of our website is now almost complete. We hope this will improve its usefulness, and its performance when viewed using the newer browsers now coming into common use.

All the web pages and sub-pages have now been re-written to conform to the standard validation test set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) specifications. This explains the presence of the cryptic W3C icons you may notice below the bottom of each page.

We have incorporated our new logo which features the rare Cinderella Waxbill, resident in our grounds and nesting nearby.

Perhaps the most significant visible change to the site is this new
Quick Info page which provides just that - basic information at a glance for those in a hurry.

The new [Watch this Space] page will in future provide more detailed current and archive news.

We hope you will find these revisions make the website even more useful in describing as best we can all the wonderful and unique experiences you can enjoy when you visit Kunene River Lodge.

If you find any errors or problems when using the website, please report them to the Webmaster who will endeavour to remedy them as soon as possible - see [Help] to the left.
